Camping

Hawthorne Trench Campsite is a spacious site in the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, half a mile from the village of Elham.

This is a peaceful site where you can pick your own pitch from the heaps of space around the 20-acre grass field. The campsite offers very simple facilities stretching just to toilets, showers and a washing-up area.

Families and groups are welcome, but sadly dogs aren’t allowed because of the resident animals.

Pick your pitch (up to four people per pitch) on arrival

Facilities include toilets, showers and washing-up area

Guided trench tours available to book on arrival

Public footpaths run from the site out to local woods and forest and there’s lots of choice for quiet rural bike rides too. You’ll meet the sheep, young horses and friendly dogs that live at the park you may well be able to spot bats, badgers and owls popping by as well.

It’s very easy to get out for various day trips to places like Leeds Castle, Howletts Wild Animal Park and Canterbury (25 minutes’ drive away). Bus stops in the village are handy for getting out and about to several of these places.

Farm Stays are also available with Air BnB.
